Allergies, Medical and Other Important Information

If any student has an allergy or medical issue, please let us know and also how to treat them in case of an event. Generally, if there is any information that we need to be aware of please share it with us by email so we can put it in their files.

Communication

All communication is sent by email. We send communication to the emails we have on file for students and parents. If you need to add someone to our email list, please let us know.

Please check your emails for any information from or about The Song Shack. 

Holiday Schedule

We will be closed for all major Holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years, Independence Day, Memorial Day.

We will also be closed the week after Mid-South Fair Youth Talent Competitions. We will email dates in advance. 

Inclement Weather Policy

As a rule, we are closed when Shelby County and Memphis City Schools close. If the weather event is on a day where there is no school in session, we will not be open if there is any type of weather advisory or an active condition that could compromise travel or electricity, etc.

On days that have a weather threat please watch your emails. That is where we will communicate new information on closing or remaining open. We will always err on the side of caution for the safety of our students and staff.

Kindness contract

As a culture, The Song Shack expects a higher level of kindness and courtesy. Please always Say hello to anyone you see, make an active effort to include anyone and help keep students from sitting alone. It also is expected for all students to assist each other whenever possible.

At no time, is the following behavior expected:

• Talking negatively about anyone atTSS in front of or behind their backs.
• Laughing or Whispering when others are present and not included in the conversation and especially Laughing, Whispering if they are performing, speaking or singing.

*The Song Shack reserves the right to terminate any students lessons at anytime.

Payments, Invoices and Accounts

If at any time you will be late with your tuition or need to make an arrangement on payment, please email us ahead of time.

Our invoicing is handled by an outside account and is automatic.

Late Invoices- there is a $25 late fee the 3rd day after your invoice has been sent, a $50 late fee after the 5th and your student will be automatically removed from the schedule on the 7th after your invoice has been sent if we have not made arrangements with you.

This will be strictly enforced in 2025

Auto-pay and stored payment methods are strongly encouraged and will receive a $10 discount.

****NEW- Cash and Check payments will receive a $20 discount.

Lessons

Any missed lessons need to give 24 hours notice to be eligible for a makeup lesson.

Please notify thesongshack@gmail.com for any missed lessons or appointment changes.

Makeup lessons need to be used within 30 days.

Extended Vacations, Holidays

Please email in advance and we can make exceptions to our 30 day makeup lessons policy. This only applies when discussed ahead of time. 

Discontinuing Lessons

To discontinue lessons, please give a 30 day notice. Please note, if and when you are wanting to return there is no guarantee there will be an open lesson time. 

Co-Writes

Teachers do not receive a co-writing credit on any songs. The only exception is when beforehand it is discussed and a “Split sheet” is filled out. Those will be copied, emailed and sent home, if so. 

All students working on a song will split the song in equal parts regardless of the participation level. A Split Sheet is required any time there is a song written between 2 or more parties.

Security

When no one is at the front desk and it is dark the front door may be locked. Please text or call the number posted on the door or your teacher to be let in. This is for the protection of the students. All students/parents should have your teachers contact information.

Arriving early and staying late

Students are welcome to come before their lessons or stay after. Make sure and find out what time we are closing or opening, sometime the times may vary.

Everyone is more than welcome to hang out, write, or if a room is open feel free to use it!
